Accuracy describes how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value. Using a target as an analogy: accuracy is how close your shots land to the bullseye.

Precision describes consistency — getting the same result repeatedly, whether or not that result is near the bullseye. You might miss the center every time, but precision means you're hitting the same spot each time.

In a laboratory setting, both matter independently. An inaccurate pipette produces skewed data — your measurements are systematically off from the true volume. An imprecise pipette introduces variability across replicates, making results unreproducible even if the average is correct.
